ACQUITTED ON CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Charged with manslaughter and alternatively with assault causing bodily harm to Akaripa Pou, aged 69, a farmer, of Kaikohe, Ngaone Te Rata Tahere, aged 29, married, was acquitted of both charges in the Supreme Court today. The case was that on the night of August 2 Pou came but of his house to where the accused was talking to his wife’s sister. Pou ordered the accused off the property, aiming a blow at the accused with a golf club. The accused walked away. Pou followed him. A few minutes later Pou suffered a head wound. ' In a statement to the police, the accused said Pou struck him on the arm and head with the golf club. He fell to the ground dazed and three bottles of soft drink which appeared to strike Pou’s face.
