OBITUARY Mr Harry James

The death occurred at Christchurch yesterday, after a brief illness, of Mr Harry Digby James, of Greymouth, aged 76. He was born at Christchurch, but spent practically all his life in the Grey district. Mr James was a printer by trade, having entered the employ of the '

Grey River Argus Company as a youth. Later he acquired an interest in the company, and he was manager at the time the Labour movement purchased the business about 30 years ago. For many years Mr James had been proprietor and operator of the totalisator for all West Coast racing and trotting clubs and also for the Nelson, Marlborough, and Geraldine clubs. He was also a director of United Sawmills, Ltd, and Westland Theatres, Ltd, and was treasurer of the Foresters’ Lodge lor over 30 years. * Mr James is survived by his wile, five sons, Tfigby and Philip (Greymouth). Charles (Poerua), Maurice (Hokitika), and Denis (Auckland), and three daughters, Mesdames P. R. Quinn and E. O’Brien, and Miss Urba James (of Greymouth); also two sisters, Mesdames Travers and Haymes (Wellington), and three brothers, William (Dunedin), Horace (Wanganui), and Leonard (Timaru). The funeral will take place at Karoro cemetery tomorrow morning, following Requiem Mass at St Patrick’s Church. Mrs Emily Cohen The death occurred suddenly yesterday at her residence in Marton, of Mrs Emily Cohen, formerly of Otira and Greymouth. She is survived by her husband, Mr R. Cohen; also two sisters, Mesdames Ackland and Craig, Matai. Mrs Goodisson, of Cobden, is a niece. Mrs Kate Pinn The death occurred at Greymouth last evening, after a brief illness, of Mrs Kate Eleanor Pinn, wife of Mr Edward William Pinn, of Atarau. ' Mrs Pinn was born in Nottinghamshire, England, and came to New Zealand 23 years ago. For the past '22 years she had lived at Atarau. She is survived by her husband and one sister, who lives in England. The funeral will take place at the Karoro cemetery tomorrow afternoon.

The funeral of Mrs Jane Cowan, of Dobson, took place this afternoon at the Karoro cemetery, and was largety attended. The Rev. T. G. Campbell conducted the services at St Johns Presbyterian Church, Greymouth, and at the graveside.
