Tretham And Orari Candidates Work At Riccarton
[SPECIAL TO STAR]
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
In spite of many' Riccarton horses being engaged at Trentham and at Orari on Saturday, fast work, yesterday morning was somewhat, restricted. The No. 6 grass track was open, and it provided fairly slow going, while a strong wind down the straight.militated against'fast times. Banshee, joined by Zorro at the six furlong post, covered seven furlongs in 1.31 1-5, the last, four in 53 .1-5. Banshee would have prospects in the Desert Gold Stakes but tor drawing the extreme outside marble at the barrier.
Wide Range sprinted three furlongs in 40. He is to go to' Trentham for the racing on the second and third clays and should race well.
Avonbridge ran six furlongs in 1.19 2-5, and his stable mates, Double Cross and Deficiency, went over the same ground in 1.19 1-5. Trident and Robin Redbreast sprinted three furlongs in 38 2-5. They will be a useful bracket in the Wellesley Stakes on Saturday.’
Palomino and Encounter ran five furlongs in-1.5 4-5, the last four in 51 4-5.
Musselman In Form
Magical and Musselman kept abreast throughout a half mile sprint in 50 1-5, the last three furlongs in 38 1-5. The latter worked exceptionally well, especially as he had careered at a fast gallop round the stalls and tracks followed the dislodging of his rider when going to the post. Magical has done everything right since his trip to Wingatui, and will be a very fit juvenile for his Wellesley Stakes task next Saturday. Palm Bearer, who is to contest the open sprint at Trentham on Saturday, strode ovex - seven furlongs in 1.31 2-5, the first three in 38 1-5.
Ballochbuie was given useful work over six furlongs, running home the last half mile in 51 3-5. Hex - finishing run at Washdyke gives her more than an outside chance in the Desert Gold Stakes. She will be taken to Trentham for her trainex - C. Emerson by J. C. Tomkinson.
Lord Advocate attracted notice by reeling off five furlongs comfortably in 1.5 1-5, the last three in 39. Deep Harmony and Broie were let off with an easy half mile in 54, • and Revolte and Coral Arc were given similar - work.
Al Sirat gave a very moderate display over four - hurdles.
