ASSOCIATION ARSENAL LEADING IN BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS

(Rec. 10 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 13. By winning their ninth match on Saturday, Arsenal remain on top of Division I in the British soccer championships. They beat Aston Villa by one to nil before 61,000 people and lead the division with 20 points. Next to them with 19 points are Preston, who defeated Manchester City by 2-1. Third in this division are Blackpool with 15 points. They were beaten by Burnley, 1-nil. Charlton beat Wolver- j hampton 5-1 after the “Wolves” goalkeeper retired badly hurt. z The Division II leaders are West Bromwich with 19 points. They beat Millwall 2-1 and have a lead of two | points over both Birmingham and | Cardiff City- Birmingham drew at home with Chesterfield and Cardiff City moved up after beating Luton 1In Division HI, Southern, Queen’s Park. Rangers stili lead the way with 22 points after losing to Swansea 3-1. Bristol City are second with 18 points after decisively . beating Norwich 6-nil. Third are Wallsall with 16 points. They beat Northampton flnil. * Wrexham and Accrington are equal in Division 111, Northern, each with 17 points. Wrexham beat Chester 2- and Accrington beat Gateshead 1-nil. Partick Thistle, Hibernian and Motherwell all top the Scottish League division with 10 points apiece. Results: Partick 8, Airdrie 2; Hibernian 6, Queen of South nil; Motherwell 2, Third Lanark' 1. ' .
