REEFTON CANTERBURY BOXERS COMPETE AT LOCAL TOURNAMENT

(C.C.) REEFTON, This Day. The Reefton Boxing Association held a tournament on Saturday night when boxers from Canterbury and a number of boys from the Reefton boxing school competed. The large number of patrons was treated to some splendid boxing. Mr T. Croft was the referee. The results were as follows: —

B. Wills and B. Earl drew. Wills was' the more aggressive boxer but his opponent balanced this with excellent in-fighting. K. Wills lost to McLean, who was the heavier and more experienced boxer.

J. Hunt beat G. McElwee in a willing bout over three rounds. K. Miller beat R. Wills in a fast bout. There was little between them. R. Taylor and P. Chandler drew in one of the most popular bouts of the evening. Lucas (Christchurch) beat Harry (Christchurch) the winner carrying the fight to his opponent all the way. Ellery (Christchurch) beat Burnside (Christchurch), the bout only going over two of the scheduled three rounds. Ellery was in better condition, .and was the better boxer in a fast bout.

Taylor and Phillips, both of Chirstchurch, fought a draw. Taylor’s well placed punches in the first two rounds were countered by Phillips’s improved display in the third.

W. Russell (Canterbury) fought a four-round bout with L. O’Brien (Canterbury). Russell won, but O’Brien fought gamely. B. V. Musson (Christchurch) fought six rounds with Butterworth (Christchurch)-. In the best contest of the evening Musson worried his opponent with a good left hand and both made the fight willing. Musson

was a clear winner. Sandford beat Millison in a threeround bout.

Mr F. Allen, the secretary of the Canterbuy Boxing Association, who accompanied the visiting boxers, retuned thanks for the hospitality extended to the visitors.
