‘Spivs, Drones And Butterflies’
(Rec. 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 26. The Government will next week announce new measures to bring “spivs, drones and butterflies” into industry and limit the allocation of workers to unessential industries, such as football pools. Reuters’ Parliamentary correspondent says that “spivs” are defined as persons making a living by rather dubious, but not necessarily illegal methods. “Butterflies” are regarded as female drones. The definitions cover persons engaged in black market activities or dealing at high profits in scorce commodities outside the regular market channels. The Ministry of Labour will pay particular attention to these categories and will also endeavour to divert to work of national importance persons not at present making any useful contribution to the general welfare.
