Power For Barry town

Sir,—Over a year ago members of the Power Boarfi promised to extend the power line to the limit of the settlers in Barrytown. Time has passed and we are still without power. Amongst those whp are on the outer are three returned-soldier farmers who when they came home were told, that the best of everything was not goocl enough for them—a srich promise with no sign of fulfilment. The power was taken so far and there was only one returned soldier farmer amongst all those who gained the luxury. We all hear of shortages of wire, poles and fittings, but there was evidently none when, they changed over the power in Reefton, and the Mines Department never seems to feel the shortage. Parrytown is dying a slow death through lack of power to operate a sawmill and the* lack of power for farmers. Yours, etc., G. C, HAYDON. Barrytown Sept. 24.

The Power Board’s promise to supply power to Barrytown had been fulfilled, stated a board member’ when the above letter was referred to him yesterday. The original area had actually been extended to enable power to be supplied to another farm, but the board could not undertake to reticulate the whole of the district. — Editor, Evening Star.
