FRENCH DOLLARS RUNNING OUT: U.S. AID SOUGHT
PARIS, September 26. France’s dollar resources would be exhausted, she would have to cease all dollar purchases, and her entire future and her recovery would be compromised if American aid was not received by October, said a French Foreign Ministry spokesman. Help in November or December would be too late, said the spokesman, ■ In view of her dwindling resources France had cancelled all dollar purchases except wheat, coal, and fats, on August 26. She would have to forgo even these vital supplies if help were delayed. » The French Prime Minister (Mr Ramadier) had given these bald facts to the American Secretary of the Treasury (Mr John Snyder) early this week, said the spokesman. He added that French negotiations for 200,000 tons of grain from Argentina were proceeding favourably, but no reply had been received from Russia to a request made last month for j 1,500,000 tons.
