America Sends Protest Note To Jugoslavia

(Rec. 11.20 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Sept. 24

The United States has sent a Note to Jugoslavia protesting against the “irresponsible Jugoslav actions” in presenting ultimatums to Allied military representatives in the Trieste area, demanding alterations in the provisional boundary between th-? Anglo-American 1 zone of Trieste and Jugoslavia. The acting-Secretary of State, Mr Robert Lovett, revealed this today. He added that the Note said that such ultimatums were “likely to precipitate 1 incidents leading to very serious consequences.” The American Note rejected, as without foundation and unworthy of comment, Jugoslav protests alleging misconduct by American military forces during their withdrawal from the territory ceded to Jugoslavia under the Italian peace treaty.

The United States Trieste army announced that the Jugoslav authorities have refused to answer a second request for the return of three American soldiers whom the Jugoslavs seized on April 22, says the British United Press Trieste correspondent.
