IDENTITY OF DEAD MAN NOT YET FULLY ESTABLISHED

No substantial progress had been made by the time the Evening Star went to press this afternoon towards establishing the identity of the, man whose body was found in the bush, below the Moeraki river, South Westland, oh Tuesday. A ration book found on the body contained the name “W. A. Phillips.” The police have made inquiries in Wanganui, Wellington, Christchurch, and Napier, but without a great deal of progress beyond ascertaining that the relatives of the man, believed to be W. A. Phillips, live in Australia. The body was brought from Paringa to Wataroa last night, after an inquest had been opened and a postmortem examination was to be made there today.
