FIVE PER CENT. REBATE ON COST OF POWER SUPPLY

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. A rebate of 5 per cent, to all power boards in New Zealand will be made on the cost of power supplied to them during 1947 by the State HydroElectric Department. This concession, which will- total £37,000, was announced today by the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, addressing the annual conference of the Power Boards and Supply Authorities’ Association. Declaring that the rebate was for 1947 only, Mr Semple said that efforts were made to have it applied to power supplied during 1946 also, but this was refused by the Treasury. “If you want to get it for 1946 also, you had better fight again,” Mr Semple added. The president, Mr J. A. Nash, representing Manawatu-Oroua, said_ it was not the intention of the association to let the matter of the 1946 rebate drop. In a statement to the conference before Mr Semple’s arrival, Mr Nash had said that many boards sufiered a serious loss of revenue through being called upon to reduce substantially unit consumption. In a subsequent explanation oi the saving of £37,000 afforded by the 5 per cent, rebate, Mr Semple said that the amount referred only to the saying to North Island authorities on the June quarterly account and to the South Island authorities on the September quarterly account.
