MR WALSH GIVES CASTING VOTE

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A vote of 43 for and 43 against endorsement of the Government’s strike ballot legislation was returned after nearly three hours’ discussion at a special meeting of the Wellington Trades Council last night. The vote was recorded on a show of hands after several counts. When the result was announced, the president, Mr F. P. Walsh, gave his casting vote in favour of the legislation. He declared the motion of support carried, although he was challenged by several delegates, who claimed that only the returning officer, not the president, had the right to record a casting vote.
