OBITUARY Archdeacon Petrie

The death occurred last night at Christchurch, of the Venerable Archdeacon Alan Julien Petrie, vicar of St Mary’s Church, Merivale, aged 59. Archdeacon Petrie was born at Naseby and was educated at the Greymouth District High School, at which he was the Watkins medallist in 1902, Selwyn College, Dunedin, and Durham University. He was ordained priest at Dunedin in 1913 and aftei serving as assistant curate at Dunedin for several years he was a chaplain with the forces in the last year of the First World War. Later he was stationed as vicar at Mount Somers, Lyttelton, Ashburton and Akaroa, where he was a member of the Borough Council for several years. •
