Accommodation for Immigrants
To house the second draft of assisted 'British immigrants who are due in October, the Department of Labour and Employment is negotiating with the Army for camp accommodation. There had been no difficulty in finding accommodation for the first draft, said an officer of the department today. Most of . the women had gone to mental hospitals and the others had gone to public service hostels. Most of the men had gone to mining and sawmilling jobs where accommodation was available. The few who had entered industries in the Wellington district had been quartered at the departments workers’ camps at Hataitai Park ana the Winter Show building until they could find private-board.—(P.A.)
