REEFTON RECORD OUTPUT BY DISTRICT COAL MINES IN AUGUST
(0.C.. REEFTON, This Day. Reefton district mines in month of August established a record output for the year to date with .14,164 tons. Five weeks’ totals were included in the period, the final week’s tonnage- being 3155, the best for over three" months. There was no broken time at the mines during the week. LOW RAINFALL The rainfall recorded at the Reefton School of Mines for August totalled 6.07 inches on 16 rain days, with a maximum fall of 2.04 inches on August 6. This was much less than the August, 1946, total which was over 13 inches.
During the week-end Reefton experienced stormy weather conditions, with steady rain and a considerable drop in temperature. There has been a iresh and heavy fall of snow on the mountain tops and yesterday wore was a heavy thunderstorm shortly after mid-day. Showers fell throughout the day. rugby competitions
Competitions were resumed during the week-end in the Inangahua Subunion’s district. The following senior matches were played:— White Shield.—lnangahua ■ Junction 6, United 3, Junction scoring and winning just on time. Findley Cup.—Waiuta 10, Cronadun 6. In a non-competitive game at Reefton, Ikamatua beat Waratah by spts to 3. A junior game 1 at Reefton resulted:— United 17, Ikamatua 6.
