AIR EVACUATION FROM PUNJAB RIOT AREAS

NEW DELHI, Aug. 30.

The Royal Air Force, because of the disturbed conditions in the Punjab, has agreed to place two squadrons at the disposal of the Indian Government and two at the disposal of Pakistan for the evacuation of railway and post and telegraph employees from the territories of each Government.

The British Overseas Airways Corporation will send to the troubled areas of India and Pakistan this week-end every aeroplane not required for normal passenger services. The aeroplanes will stand by in India and Pakistan for the evacuation of European personnel. Scottish Airlines will also send aircraft. It is estimated that the evacuation of people from the disturbed areas -by air will take about a fortnight. A number of prominent Indians whose lives would be in peril if they attempted to pass through the massacre area will be flown out. A scheme for flying out some British officials from Delhi was planned several weeks ago, but the slaughter of the last week 'has made a full emergency evacuation service necessary.
