Indonesians Allege Dutch Breaches Of Cease-Fire Order

(Recd. 11 a.m.) BATAVIA, Aug. 12. In a message to the Security Council from the Jogjakarta radio tonight, the Republican Government reported 10 additional alleged violations by the Dutch of the “cease fire” order in Java.

In an operation in which airborne troops are* being used, the Dutch forces began mopping up the whole Prianger district between Bandung and the occupied province of Banjumas, according to a Republican situation report broadcast tonight. It says that many smaller towns have been occupied since August 6 and that there is severe fighting in the Prianger district’s two main towns of Garut and Tasikmalaya. There have been many casualties among the population. Fighting was continuing yesterday in Garut. The Garut and Tasikmalaya districts before the war were rich tea and rubber producing areas, says the A.A.P. Reuter correspondent. The fighting is in the most rugged parts of Java, where the Dutch forces have encountered the strongest resistance since the “police action” began on July 21. By driving on Garut and Tasikmalaya, the Dutch will cut off the main body of Republicans fighting south and east of Bandung, already cut off from Jogjakarta by the occupation of Banjumas province. Republican eighth division headquarters are known to be in this area.
