PUBLIC SERVICE RESENTMENT OF ‘ASPERSION’

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A strong protest against the rejection of the Public Service Association’s overtime and. penal rate claims was made by the Wellington section committee. Ninety-eight of the 100 departmental representatives attending voted for the resolution. Regarding the commission’s statement that the association’s claims could not be granted because overtime was being abused, a resolution passed said: “We resent this as an aspersion upon the many thousands of public servants who willingly accept an extension of their working hours in order to cope with an increasing volume of work aggravated by staff shortages in many departments.” Full support was pledged to the national executive in any action it may take to obtain satisfaction, and it was requested that the matter be placed before the forthcoming conference as one of urgency and that the conference be asked to undertake a national campaign in support of the association’s claims.
