HEAVY TRACK FOR TRAINING WORK AT RICCARTON

[SPECIAL TO STAR] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The No. 1 grass track, next to the course proper, was open for fast work at Riccarton yesterday morning, and following rain over the week-end the surface was sloppy, and in c ° quence fast times were out of the question. The main steeplechase course was open, but only a £ew horses schooled over it. The steeplechase course, also the outside of the course proper, will be available for the final work-outs tomorrow. Half-mile sprints were the most popular yesterday morning, the best time being 51 2-5 recorded by All Quality, and others included Palm Bearer and Banshee 51 4-5, Fine Night 51 4-5, Legal Rose 51 4-5, Citril 53 3-5, Bobby Dazzle? and Frances 53 3-5, Broie and Morning Watch 53, Beechwood 54 3-5, Lady Chips 55, and Gold Medallion and Tweedside 53 1-5. Good Gallop Sandy’s Pride beat Night Blush over six furlongs in 1.19 1-5, the last four in 53. The former jeopardises her chances in races by inability to get away on terms. Bath Slipper finished in front of Good Cast at the end of six furlongs in 1.21 3-5, the last four in 54 3-5. Bruce and Royal Robe covered the same distance in 1.22 3-5, the last four in 55. Bruce is due to make his reappearance under silk on Saturday. Master Play, Edward and Abbey Lu set off together for a schooling task over the main country, and after jumping the first five fences in a dashing manner, Master Play was eased off, and the other pair carried on for the remainder of the circuit, both giving clean displays. Edward was especially impressive. Red Glare Jumps Well. Red Glare and Real Night were companions in a round. The formersoon drew away from his mate, and completed his work by an excellent effort over Cutts’ brush. Real Night struggled pn in the rear, and jumped safely until he got to Cutts’. He was inclined to stop, and slipping into the fence, fell. He was quickly remounted, and at his second attempt cleared the big obstacle in dashing style. Hunting Mac showed his usual brilliance in jumping six hurdles and Silverstream shaped satisfactorily over two hurdles.
