SPORTING Attractive Youngsters In Riccarton Parade

A parade of two-year-old colts and geldings was held at Riccarton on Saturday. There were 20 entries, and the youngsters were sprinted down the straight in three divisions. In the first, Magical led throughout and finished in front of Musselman, both in F. D. Jones’s stable at Riccarton., Magical is a black gelding by Balloch from Black Cat by Absurd from Mascot by Martian and is a half-brother to Kuri and other winners. He was one of the highpriced yearlings on the fourth day of the Trentham sales, and Mr A. Louisson had to go to 2000 guineas to secure him. . Musselman is a brown gelding'by Bulandshar from Dungloe by Inflation from Kilcannon, dam of the wellperformed Duncannon. Hb -was purchased by his present owner, Mr D. McFarlane, for 600 guineas. The third .youngster in the division was a bay colt by.the Colossus horse Top Row from the useful Mauretania by Winning Hit from Fast Passage. He is the first of Top Row’s progeny to appear in public, and although on the small side shows plenty of quality. Like his dam, he is trained for his West Coast owners, Messrs Freitas and Houston, by A. McMullan, at Riccarton.

1550 Guineas Yearling The second division was headed at the post by Finigan, who was closely followed by Peridot and St. Bruno. Finigan is a black colt by Robin Goodfellow from Knockfin by Hunting Song from Knocklyn by Solferino. Knockfin was one of the speediest mares trained at Riccarton and won 11 races, including the Stewards’ Handicap. St. Bruno is a brown colt by Salmagundi from Philaster by Philamor from Helen Hunt by Hunting Song, and was considered one of the most attractive youngsters in the parade. He is trained by H. A. Anderton for his Otago owner, Dr A. A. Reid. The fourth in the division was an unnamed brown gelding by Airway from Lake Mist by Balboa from Flying Mist by Martian, and was bred at Oamaru. He; realised 260 guineats at Trentham hnd was purchased by Mr W. B. Toon, former owner of’ Penetrate.

Kincardine Colt

The third division was won by Card Money, a bay colt by Kincardine from Pocket Money by Friday Night (brother to Phar Lap) from Gold Paper by Paper Money, and is trained at Riccarton by G. Barr for Mr L. Hodgson of Te Awamutu, who paid 450 guineas for him as a lingSecond and third places were filled by unnamed youngsters trained at Chokebore for Air J. B. DouglasClifford. One is a. brown colt by Finis from Good Passage by 'Winning Hit from Fast Passage, and the other is a bay colt by Defaulter from Bewitching by Wild Chase from Miss Mimic. The same owner was also represented by a brown colt by Finis from Wild Fox by Foxbridge from Wild Hind, dam also of Wild Chase. The fourth place-getter in the division was a bay gelding by Beau Repaire from Palmyra, a half-sister to Treasurer,- Lord Advocate and Cottingham. He is .in L. J. Ellis’s stable, and was purchased by Mr S. Ramsay (owner of Bruce) for 1000 guineas. A parade of two-year-old fillies will be held next Saturday.
