MR SHEAT’S QUERIES ON WATERFRONT COMMISSION PLANS
(F.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 12. More questions about the proposed new Waterfront Commission were asked by Mr W. A. Sheat (Opposition, Pa tea) in the House of Representatives today. He gave notice of his intention to ask the Minister of Labour (Mr McLagan) whether he. took advantage of the presehco in Wellihgtdfi last
week .of the president of the Waterside Workers’ Union (Mr H. Barnes) to continue his exploratory discussions relative to the Government’s plan to establish a new waterfront control cdihmissioh. consisting of six members at a salary of £1650 each and if so was any progress made towards a conclusion. Mr Sheat also asked whether, when an agreement was reached with Mr Barnes, the Minister would con-, stitute the coffirriissidfi by introducing legislation as was dofie With. the Dairy Products Marketing Commission, or did he propose to deal with
the matter by regulation under wartime emergency powers to avoid discussion in Parliament.
