SENTENCE ON ARMY DESERTER REDUCED

AUCKLAND, This, .Day, The sentence of .1.8 months’ hard labour was imposed by a courtmartial on Cedric Meredith, formerly of the First District Composite'Company, New Zealand Army Service Corps, for desertion has been.reduced by the convening officer to 28 days’ detention. The court had recommended mercy because of the accused’s extenuating family circumstances.
