Missing Members Of Crew Prevent Colliers Sailing

With one man missing from the crew of each vessel, Kaimai and Omana were unable to sail from Greymouth on this morning’s tide. They will sail tonight, provided the missing men are found. The Omana was expected to sail yesterday with coal for Auckland, but was held up on account of bar conditions. When these improved this morning it was found impossible to obtain a full crew and as a result the collier—one of the largest to trade to Greymouth—was compelled to remain idle for another day. The Kaimai completed coal loading for Wellington last night. , The desired fast turn-round of coastal vessels is also being impeded by a labour shortage at Wellington and there the Gabriella, which recently loaded coal and timber at Greymouth, is idle awaiting men to commence unloading operations. The Gabriella is scheduled to make another trip to Greymouth for coal and timber, but as a result of the hold-up at Wellington is not expected to leave until some time next week.
