Champion Swimmer Rescued From Sea
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. A dramatic prelude to a' life-sav-ing demonstration yesterday by surf club members at Piha, the popular Auckland west coast beach, was the rescue of the national junior swimming title and record holder, John Jarvis, who went out for a swim and got caught in a vicious rip. A lifesaver cruising on a ski saw him in difficulties, but the ski was damaged when he endeavoured to effect a rescue. Jarvis was later brought ashore by another life-saver with a ski.
Jarvis suffered no ill effects and competed in a surf race, finishing fourth.
