Australia Sets An Example. . The enterprise being displayed by Australia in the matter of immigration is such that it .should arouse serious attention in New‘Zealand. Here, largely owing to the negative attitude adopted by the special Parliamentary Committee which inquired into the ’question last session, we have now assumed that immigration is impossible for the present, owing to lack of the necessary shipping and insufficiency of housing in which to accommodate the immigrants when they arrive. As to the future, the Parliamentary Committee had no definite proposals to advance, and appeared to be content mainly with the population advancing slowly by natural increase.
