PLAN FOR PALESTINE

REASONS FOR REJECTION BY JEWISH AGENCY AMERICAN LABOUR ATTITUDE (Recd. 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 11. The head of the political department of the Jewish Agency, Mr. Moshe Shertok, at a press conference gave the Jewish Agency’s reasons for rejecting the British Government’s proposals for a settlement of the Palestine problem, which was presented to the London confenence. Mr. Sheftok said, first, that there was no certainty in the proposals whether there would be any Jewish immigration after the first two years; secondly, regarding the territory the Jews under the terms of the suggested scheme found themselves hemmed in in their present positions practically without any room for expansion and development; thirdly, if the object of the suggested scheme was achieved, the Jews would in five years find themselves in a minority in Palestine. Mr. William Greenfpresident of the American Federation of Labour, has cabled Mr. Bevin expressing alarm at the Palestine developments and concern that the Jews should again be punished by the imposition of martial law in Palestine. . Mr. Green urged that it be avoided and the doors quickly opened to persecuted Jewish people.
