HOPES OF CHRISTIANS

FAITH THE SUBSTANCE AND FOUNDATION SERMON BY DR. RUMBLE “Faith is the ’ substance and foundation of all our Christian hopes; if people drift from their faith they leave the one anchor that can hold them against all the evils which are becoming so manifest in our collapsing civilisation,” said the Rev. Dr. L. Rumble, M.S.C., of Sydney, in a sermon at St. Patrick’s Church, Greymouth, on Sunday, before a packed congregation. Dr. Rumble is a wellknown radio personality in Australia, having conducted a question hour for the past 10 years from station 2SM, Sydney. “Faith,” continued Dr. Rumble, “is like the roots of a tree—the tree will stand against all storms as long as the roots hold. Faith is a gift of God, but it depends on our choice whether it is used or rejected. It was given to us in the words of Christ; ‘I say unto you,’ with a Divine claim on our submission and obedience. We accept it because He knows and could not reveal what is untrue. The creature does not know better than the Creator, and no arguments of men can avail against the truth revealed by Christ.” “In the end,” said Dr. Rumble, “either the maxims of the Gospel or the maxims of the world are true, and the maxims of the Gospel are not wrong. The only thing for a Christian to do is to live according to the maxims of the Gospel, grateful for possessing them and willing to do his utmost to propagate them.”
