MARCHING Grey Teams Unplaced In Championships

(P.A.) BLENHEIM, February 10. Twelve teams contested the South Island marching championships in brilliant weather, before a crowd of 2500 at Blenheim on Saturday. The winning team was Stafford of Timaru (242ipts) with N.Z. Farmers’ and Regent, both of Marlborough, (234ipts) sharing second place. Miss M. Harty, of the winning team, was adjudged the best leader. Other teams were from Nelson, Greymouth and Westport. The programme was opened by Mr. A. G. Harper, assistant under-secre-tary of Internal Affairs. The gate takings exceeded £3OO. Two Greymouth teams, Combined Business Girls and Owens, competed in the championship, and were placed seventh and eight respectively, among the 16 competitors, Convent Old Girls (Nelson) being placed fourth, Arawa (Nelson) fifth, Clouston’s “Red Coats” (Marlborough) sixth. Owens team won the competition for the best costumes, with Koronui (Westport) second and N.Z. Farmers third.
