Australian Swimmer’s Record.

A Victorian swimmer, John Marshall, aged 16, won the Australian half-mile title in lOmin 27.35ec. This was his fourth success at the national meeting, the others being in the 220, 440, and 1650 yards freestyle events. Though Marshall’s time is a race record, it falls short of K. Nakama s fastest time in Australia of lOmin 12.2 sec, and of Biddulph s fastest time by an Australian of 10mm 16.4 sec. After suffering from illness and biliousness during a heat wave in the morning, Marshall did not leave the lace in doubt. He left the Held m the first 75 yards and won by ovei 30 yards. The United States Pacific Coast champion, F. Taioli, was left with G. Agnew (Western Australia) to fight out the second place, whicn went to the American by a- touch. An American, Ralph Wright, won the 220 yards breaststroke. Minor placinrts gave New South Wales the Kieran Shield by half a point from Victoria.
