Barrage Successful in Earle Stakes

(P.A.) WANGANUI, Feb. 9. The Wanganui... Jockey Club’s autumn meeting was concluded op Saturday in good weather. The track was in excellent order. There was a larger’ attendance than on the previous Saturday, and the totalisator handled £63,738/10/-, compared with £45,344 on the second day last April, making an aggregate for the two days of £115,174/10/-, against £85,668/10/-, an increase of £29,506, a record for Wanganui. W. J. Broughton rode four winners, making six for the meeting. A. Johnson, rider of Lord Theio in the Flying Handicap on the opening day, was suspended for one month for interference with New Deer, but he was allowed to fulfil the day’s engagements, and he won the concluding event on Lord Theio, which paid double figures. Expenses For Farriers To Be Paid A meeting of the committee of the Greymouth Jockey Club was held this morning, when requests submitted by the New Zealand Farriers’ Association for, inter alia, the payment of expenses to farriers attending race meetings of the club, were considered. The requests were recommended for the acceptance of clubs by the Racing Conference. The club decided to meet the requests. and it is expected that, contrary to reports, farriers will be in attendance at the club’s meeting at Omoto on Saturday next.
