Elimination of Notable Players (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 7. Only three .former champions— Haworth (Canterbury), Squire (Hawera) and Pilkington (Manawatu) — remain in the pairs championship at the Dominion bowls tournament. Haworth and Pilkington have two lives and Squire one life. Two-lifers remaining in are Hulston and Haworth (Canterbury), W. Donald and Brightling (Lower Hutt), Wilson and Turnbull (Frankton), Bird and Russell (Newtown), Martin and Williams (Edgeware), Holder and Pilkington (Manawatu). Percy and Fredericks (Karori). Forty-nine one-lifers also qualified for post-section play. The one-lifers are Stubbings and Campbell (Masterton), White and Plummer (Wanganui), Edmunds and Hill (Edendale, Auckland), Swinard and McGregor (Tauranga South), Lineen and McCullough (Carlton), Howse and Reid (Lyall Bay), Langlands and Johnson (Gisborne), James and Rolls (Featherston), Virtue and Ciinkard (Carlton), Armstrong and Kay (Shirley), Denman and Bramley (Plimmerton), Clark and Marton (Hataitai), Thomas and Thomas (Ohakune). Notable players eliminated to-day in the pairs competition were W. Bremner (Epsom), who was in the winning pairs of 1932 and 1940 (skip); W. C. Franks (Balmoral), single and fours champion in 1939; Maslin (Hawera), who led for M. J. Squire in 1333 and 1941; AV. J. Robinson (Carlton), winner of the pairs in 1939; H. Wilson, skip of the national fours champions in 1934 and 1938, and H. Jenkins, winner of the

pairs in 1930. It is proposed, if possible, to play a number of singles games as players become available from the pairs.
