ROYAL JOURNEY
FIRST 2000 MILES NOW COMPLETED LONDON, Feb. 6. H.M.S. Vanguard, carrying the Royal Family to South Africa, is now proceeding in fine weather. She may anchor for a couple of hours tomorrow at the mouth of the Gambia river, in West Africa. “A north-east trade wind and a moderate sea made impracticable the launching of the barge from the Vanguard for the Royal visit to the escorting craft,” says Reuter’s correspondent. “Their Majesties therefore visited the Royal maids’ quarters, the petty officers’ dining hall, the bakery, and the kitchens. The Queen was fascinated by a machine which cuts bread and also butters it. i “The Vanguard is now 2000 miles from Portsmouth and has completed one-third of the run to the Cape.
