Byrd has reported from Little America that his expedition has discovered a new South Polar coastline about’ 2500 miles long and a hitherto unknown continental area of 125,000 square miles, containing eight mountain ranges. Rear-Admiral Byrd also disclosed the discovery of a plateau in Adelie Land 9600 ft high and of major importance. He said he believed it-was the edge of the world’s greatest inland plateau and the Polar ice cap there was estimated to be a mile and a half thick.
