22 NEW FACTORIES

OVERSEAS COMPANIES’ PLANS FOR N.S.W. INDUSTRULJEXPANSION (Rec. 11.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 8. Overseas companies would establish 22 new factories in New South Wales, said the Minister for Industry (Mr. Hamilton Knight). One company would invest £3,000,000 to establish its factory and others sums ranging from £50,000 to £1,000,000. The factories would employ 9000 men and women in the manufacture of engineering goods, chemicals, textiles, and clothing. The promoters expected to have all the factories operating by the end of 1949, although some would start before then. In’ addition Australian firms have established 31 new factories in New South Wales country areas. Mr. Knight said these facts showed that the State’s secondary industries were expanding rapidly and the prospects for continued full employment were bright.
