English Train Smash
Only nine were slightly injured when the Royal Mail Perth to London and another train, travelling in the opposite direction, both crashed into a goods train near Costbridge. The goods train was crossing to the main line when the Royal Mail struck. Another train hit the wreckage. An eye-witness said: “It was incredible to see the engines lying on their sides, wagons smashed to matchwood, and carriages derailed.” —London, Feb. 2*
