Gruner’s Execution Postponed

The Supreme Court again refused an application by Dov Gruner’s lawyer for leave to appeal to the Privy Council, but gave his lawyer permission to communicate directly with the Privy Council, which he has done by cablegram. It was earlier authoritatively learned that the execution of Dov Gruner has been postponed until February 13, says the Exchange Telegraph’s correspondent in Jerusalem. Mrs. Helen Friedman, Gruner’s sister, is expected to arrive in Palestine from the United States within a few days to continue her efforts on his behalf. It is understood the Government has agreed to facilitate the air journey to Palestine of Mrs. Friedman. Reuter’s correspondent in Jerusalem earlier reported that Gruner’s coun-

sei, Mr. Levitsky, filed a second application to the Supreme Court for leave, to appeal to the Privy Council on grounds not requiring Gruner’s previous consent. Mr. Levitsky was told that the “Government cannot undertake that justice will not take its normal course” in the Gruner case. The Colonial Secretary, Mr. Creech Jones, announced that the total casualties in 1946 in Palestine arising from Jewish and Arab terrorism, ArabJewish clashes, incidents arising out of illegal immigration and resistance to armed searches etc. were 212 killed and 428 wounded. Of the killed 45 were members of His Majesty’s forces, 29 members of the Palestine police and 138 were civilians. Of the civilians killed 14 were British, 60 were Arabs, and 63 were Jews and there was one other.
