PURCHASE PROPOSED BY SOCIALISTS (Recd. 10.50 a.m.) . LONDON, Dec. 4.. A sub-committee of Socialist members of the House of Commons in a report to the Government urge it ■to go into the film industry. They recommend the compulsory acquisition of 500 cinemas, mostly from the big cir-. cuits, the acquisition of studio space to encourage the production of independent British films, and a Govern- . ment-owned renting organisation to; handle them. ■ The report suggests that the. 500' cinemas should be split into two groups to compete with the?..three major private circuits, Gaumont, Odeon and Associated British - Cine- - mas. -
