£45,000 COLLECTED

greymouth patriotic COMMITTEE RESULT of appeals During the war period, the public of Greymouth and surrounding districts subscribed no less than £45,000 to patriotic funds, as the result of appeals sponsored by the Greymouth Patriotic Committee. This was disclosed in a financial statement presented to the Westland Provincial Patriotic Council last evening by the honorary treasurer to the Greymouth Committee, Mr. F. H.* Denton. Up to December 5, 1945, the Greymouth committee had received £43,351/11/1 and since that date an additional £25/9/6 had been received, making a total of £43,377/0/7 remitted to the Provincial Council. " The Mayor, Mr. F. A. Kitchingham, said that members of the council would note that Greymouth had raised in excess of £43*,000 for patriotic purposes. Mr. Denton pointed out that the actual total would be greater as the proceeds of the motor car art union and Spitfire appeal during the war went direct to the Government and thus did not appear in the statement before the council’. “The actual total would be probably about £45,000 —a pretty fair effort,” added Mr. Kitchingham. Mr. W. Green said that the result reflected great credit on the workers responsible for raising the money.. Aes, they were a good team,” said Mr. Kitchingham. The imprest account of the Greymouth Patriotic Committee showed that it had disbursed £242/6/4. The Grey Welfare branch of the Westland Patriotic Council received £2,154/0/8 from the provincial fund and disbursed £2,093/10/8, leaving a credit of £6O/10/-.
