LONDON POST

AM ER 1 (JAN AMB ASS A DOR APPOINTED WASHINGTON, December 3. Mr Truman announced that Mr Oliver Max Gardner has been appointed Ambassador to London succeeding Mr Averell Harriman. Mr Gardner has been Under-Secretary to the Treasury since February. He is a wealthy textile manufacturei. and was Governor of North Carolina from 1929 to 1933. Mr Gardnei, who is a Democrat, is 64. The Washington correspondent of the New York Times says that Mr Gardner’s Appointment as Ambassador is significant.
