The United Press Honolulu correspondent reports that the tidal wave had not materialised by the expected hour and beach residents began to return from the .hills to their homes. There were only a few. abnormally high waves. Geodetic survey officials in Washington estimated that the tidal wave would take about five hours to reach Oahu. . - ’
The Georgetown University seismograph recorded tremors for 90 minutes. The earthquake centre is estimated to be 2200 miles from Seattle, and thus .approximately in the same area as the subterranean earthquake in the Aleutians—-deep in the gulf of Alaska—which caused the April tidal wave. GANDHI’S PHYSICIAN DENIES REPORT (Rec. 1.10 p.m.) LONDON. Nov. 1. Gandhi’s physcian denies that he had a heart attack while en roifte to Calcutta from Delhi, says Reuter’s Calcutta correspondent. Mr Gandhi held his usual prayer meeting and he told the congregation that he was visiting Eastern Bengal on Sunday.
