LOCAL BODIES

CHANGE TN ELECTION DATE A proposhi that the Greymouth Borough Council should write to the Prime" Minister (Mr Fraser) expressing approval of the change made in the month for holding local body elections from May to November was made at a meeting of the council last evening by Cr. Blanchfield, who stated that the Grey Electric Power Board’s representative who gave evidence at the Local Body Commission, proposed such a change on behalf of the board. The motion was seconded by Cr. J. E, Stokes, but was lost on the voices after the Mayor (Mr F. A. Kitchingham) and Cr. F. F. Boustridge had stated objections to the change. The Mayor said he thought it was preferable to have the elections as soon after the end of the financial year as possible. Cr. Boustridge said that the holding of elections in the middle of the financial year would bring difficulties, unless the end of the financial year was changed from March to September.
