ASSOCIATION Blackball Wins Westland Cup Final
At the Taylorville Domain on Saturday afternoon Blackball defeated Runanga by two goals to one in the final o ( f- the Westland Cup competition. The ground was heavy and both teams used the long passing game. A feature of the match was the solid defence of both sides, particularly in the second spell. The teams were'as follows:— Blackball: McNaughton, Bailey, Howden, R. Clark, S. Clark, McGuire, A. Clark, Bateman, Phillip, Ord, Pascoe. - Runanga: Closs, Dalziel, Higson, Maskell, Bowman, Watson, Menzies, Boote, White, Reid, Williamson. After a period of even play Blackball set up a hot attack, Closs saving well on three occasions. Runanga, however, scored .first when Menzies broke away and passed to Boote, who found the net with a good shot. Blackball returned to the attack and Ord and Phillip scored in succession to put Blackball in the lead. The score at half-time was: Blackball 2, Runanga 1. The second half was evenly contested, with both goalkeepers occasionally called upon to save. Both sets of defences were sound and there was no further scoring. The game ended with Blackball deserving winners by two goals to one. The referee was Mr. J. Timlin. British and Scottish Leagues LONDON, Sept. 21.
