TAX ON OVERTIME

WATERSIDERS TO SEEK REMOVAL APPROACH TO GOVERNMENT (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Sept. 20. Expressing dissatisfaction that taxation on overtime pay has not been eliminated, a resolution passed last night by the Wellington Waterfront Central Committee, representing six unions, decided to send a deputation to the Minister of Finance (Mr. Nash) to discuss the matter, and if no satisfaction is received, to ask the unions to take appropriate action. This was announced to-day by the secretary of the Wellington branch of the Watersiders’ Union, Mr. E. A. Napier, who said that “big business” had been granted remissions of excess profits and company tax to aid production, while the workers had received no relief on overtime pay, which was earned in aiding of production and the handling of goods.
