SMALL NATIONS
“SHOULD CO-OPERATE WITH OTHERS” NEW~YORK, Sept. 17. Declaring that the principal interests of small countries corresponded with those of other countries, irrespective of size, Mr. Trygve Lie, Sec-retary-General of the United Nations, said in a speech that in his judgment nothing was to be gained by small nations creating a group of their own or organising themselves into “some sort of small nations’ trade union.” This would tend rather to harm them, both from immediate and long-range points of view. “Small nations ought to co-operate with others, irrespective of size, in accordance with their own interests at. any particular time,” he said. “The Great Powers ought to let them enjoy the right of individual co-operation without attempting to draw them to blocs or alliances against their wishes.”
