CYCLING Ex-Coasters dead-heat for Championship

Two former West Coast professional cyclists, J. Archer and L. Hoggarth/ dead-heated for fastest time in the Nelson road race on Saturday and thus shared the championship honours. Giving the limit men a start of 70 minutes, the pair completed the 73mile course in 4hr 17min 26 l-ssec to dead-heat for fourth place. The race, which was the first championship event to be held over this course, was ridden under gruelling conditions with a head wind which was of gale force at times. The handicap winner was C. J. Arnst.
