OPERA HOUSE. —To-night: “Hello Beautiful”; starring George Murphy, Anne Shirley and Carole Landis.

A tribute to feminine fashion and loveliness—with music and songs to provide gaiety and lightness the musical production, “Hello Beautiful, is showing at the Opera House. Beauty at its best is seen with blonde Carole Landis and chic Anne Shirley, both of whom are featured with George Murphy, also the “long stemmed American Beauties, known otherwise as the Powers’ models. Anne Shirley, Carole Landis and George Murphy get into various romantic escapades which wind up with the marriage of Shirley and Murphy—but before that happens there are many hectic moments. The range of fashion is a large one —street clothes styled with startling simplicity a la the War Production Board, evening things full of the old-time glamour, but with newer simplicity, too. The music is by Benny Goodman, whose celebrated band introduce three grand new song hits by Jule Styne and Kim Gannon, and sung by Dennis Day. REGENT THEATRE.— To-night: “English Without Tears,” starring Penelope Ward and Michael Wilding. A sparkling comedy abounding with charm and delicious satire on trueblue English ways and foreign eccentricities unfolds itself in the latest English hit. “English Without Tears,” which is showing at the Regent Theatre to-night. The story concerns the perfect butler of a titled familv who spurns the advances of the daughter of the house because he knows his place! The daughter (Penelope Ward) although wooed by several young men, openly declares her love for the family butler (Michael Wilding), much to the discomfort of her ladyship. When war breaks out, Gilbey/the butler, joins up'after much embarrassment over the forwardness of her ladyship’s daughter. Later the family mansion is turned into a club for all Allied servicemen, and the daughter finds plenty of distraction when she commences an English class for Allied officers. The butler turns up as a second lieutenant with an entirely different outlook on life, and the daughter is no longer interested in him. However, when she joins the A.T.S. she finds that her boss is Gilbey, now a major, and she is immediately re-posted when she falls far below his standard of efficiency. Then she realises that she does love him and she sets out to “get her man” with amusing results.
