STRIKE ORDERED
JAPANESE ORGANISATION OF UNIONS TOKIO, September 14. The Japanese Congress of Industrial Unions, claiming a membership of 1,600,000, has ordered a nationwide .strike of all affiliated unions “until Mr Yoshida’s reactionary government collapses.” The strike call was .issued to coalminers, steel and chemical workers, printers, and machinery and electrical workers, said to number 556,000. About 100,000 seamen are already striking. Thousands of coalminers have either walked out or begun a go-slow campaign. The Congress of Industrial Unions leaders accused railway workers of betrayal for calling off a strike to protest against discharge of 75,000 workers. The full effect of the strike will not be felt until after the weekend.
