FARMERS ON STRIKE
FOOD SHORTAGES IN ALBERTA OTTAWA, September 15. Shortages of eggs and other dairy products, except milk, are felt in all parts of Alberta, and critical falls in livestock deliveries have threatened a meat famine, as the Alberta Farmers’ Union, with 20,000 members, tightened its picket lines in a strike for parity prices. About 1200 employees of packing houses in Edmonton were laid off because of the lack of animals foi slaughter. . . Pickets occasionally forcibly dumped loads of wheat, cream, and other products which were being carried by other farmers to the markets.
