RIFLE SHOOTING Revival of Grey Club

Range Deteriorated During Recess After being in recess since the 194041 season, owing to the war conditions, the Grey Defence Rifle Club was revived last evening, when about 20 members attended the thirtieth annual meeting. The president, Mr. 1. J. Prendergast, was in the chair. In his report, Mr. Prendergast said that the club had been fortunate enough to be able to carry on during the first two years of the war, owing to having ample supplies of ammunition at the outbreak. During the five years of recess, however, the range had deteriorated to a sorry state. The telephone line was down, and all the club’s targets and accessories had disappeared and would have to be replaced. The hut on the range was wrecked by a gale and removed by the. Army, but an army hut had been granted as a replacement and was ready for erection. Repairs to the butts had to be undertaken by the Public Works Department, but before shooting could commence members would have to put the range in order. Seven members of the club had served in the forces, namely, Messrs J. Scorgie Junr, C. Ramsay, T. Garth, R. Boddy, F. Win, A. E. Sloss and S. Davy. The club was in the fortunate position of having a credit balance of £7/11/6 and since activities were resumed on June 1 several new members had been enrolled.
