BASKETBALL More Playing Fields Needed
A suggestion that members of Greymouth basketball teams should form a number of marching teams was considered at a meeting of the executive of the West Coast Basketball Association last evening. After some discussion members agreed that the association’s energies should be directed towards the obtaining of suitable playing areas for both winter and summer sports. It was stated that young women in Greymouth were handicapped by the acute shortage of playing fields, particularly for such sports as baseball and basketball. Representative fixtures were arranged as follows:— August 17, senior A v. Canterbury, at Christchurch; senior B and third grade A v. Nelson, at Nelson. September 21, Senior A v. South Canterbury, at Timaru; second grade A v. Canterbury, at Christchurch. It was stated that teams from Nelson and Reefton would play the-sen-ior B and second grade A teams at Greymouth on Saturday. The senior A and second grade B teams were made responsible for afternoon tea arrangements.Concern was expressed at the fact that some clubs had still not paid affiliation and association fees.
